Instructions for iron on clothing labels
We love our iron on clothing labels.. THEY WORK and have been tested in a boarding school laundry for 12 months under 180 DEGREE TEMPERATURES – they were the ONLY LABEL TO SURVIVE THIS TREATMENT..!!!
As a mother I love the convenience (especially when I am not good at sewing..!!) There is just a couple of steps you need to take when ironing them onto your childrens clothes..
- Make sure the fabric is cotton, cotton blend, cotton/polyester only – if in doubt do a small test somewhere out of sight on the clothing item to make sure a hot iron will not melt fabric.
Make sure fabric is completely dry - Always use the protective sheet (supplied with the labels) when ironing on label
- Make sure your iron is set at the hottest setting
- CUT LABEL along cutting line.
- REMOVE clear backing (NOTE: backing sheet is quite thick, label is very thin and will feel slippery and look shiny on the back. It will curl slightly, so Iron garment area first to warm up prior to positioning label)
- POSITION LABEL on garment with right side up (ie lettering facing up) note: label will curl once removed from clear backing sheet
- HEAT IRON on cotton/linen setting
- LAY PROTECTIVE SHEET over label making sure label is flat BEFORE ironing
this protective sheet prevents scorching garment – DO NOT USE TEA TOWEL OR BROWN PAPER – ONLY USE SHEET SUPPLIED WITH LABELS. - IRON FOR APPROX 5-8 SECONDS, lift iron and remove protective sheet. Leave to cool down for 5 seconds (WARNING: protective sheet will be hot from iron, handle on edges ONLY when lifting off garment)
- CHECK LABEL edges with fingernail – label will appear ‘gooey’ this is a good thing… label needs to melt slightly into fabric. – If label is not completely attached lay paper over label and repeat steps 8 and 9 for approx 3 seconds longer
- Label is attached to garment when corners cannot be lifted and you can see a slight impression of the fabric below, through the label (in other words you can see the pattern of the weave within the label)
WARNING: Be careful when touching label straight after ironing it will be VERY hot. - HINT: it is a good idea to round the edges of the label with a pair of sissors prior to ironing – this helps with adhesion to fabric.
- Remove protective paper immediately after ironing and leave garment to cool.
